Any businesses near you that you could offer a phone & collect service to ? Build up regular repeat business from local businesses (offer a small discount over £x amount) so that you're not always relying on passing trade.

As a 1 person operation, this would be difficult to do.

It may be worth offering a loyalty scheme type offer; a startup coffee stand at my local station is offering the 10th coffee free, and are now looking at moving into a small selection of hot food.

I go down there most mornings on my way into work, as they're set up early and much cheaper than McD's etc. It may also be worth asking your local station if you can rent part of the front most mornings.

They're (retired mother and housewife daughter) doing a roaring trade selling to commuters at £2 a pop, to the tune of £200+ gross a day, in 3 months. Bacon roll for £2 a go, and you'll easily be looking at the above figure net, for 3 hours a day (5.30am to 8.30am).

I'll PM you details of the station, as it's a small one with no actual shop locally.

Offer variations on your current product, improve the quality of your current product and charge more, or relaunch with different product that you charge more for.

There's all manner of programmes on Food Network that you could poach ideas from.

How flexible can you be with your location?

There is a butty van near work and it gets my business, as they use good quality ingredients and not the cheapest stuff from the nearest cash n carry. The van and the woman who owns it are spotless and I dont mind paying a premium for this.
She also has a decent range of drinks and snacks which are popular.

How about a little Man v Food inspiration and offer some pulled pork sandwiches and wraps. or a friday special Mega breakfast nutty.

I was thinking more Diners, Drive Ins, or Eat Street, but if you can ignore the challenges on MvF, there's sometimes some good stuff in the other segments.....

The one near my work does hot doughnuts as well and you get a free tea with a bag of five doughnuts (they are small!). That seems to be very popular.

I remember watching a couple of "America's best sandwich", and at the end where he says "have a look around where you live for the best sandwich", I thought - yes, round here, if you get to the shop early enough, you can have cheese and tomato.
