Virgin Media Defaulted Me?

Im not sure where to post this so ive posted it here as its kind of debt related.
The situation im in at the moment is, I used to work for Fujitsu which is a contracting company to Virgin Media.
I was on the staff accounts, However, I left in September and Fujitsu told me they would be informing Virgin Media that I left them, However they didnt do this until December, I moved out of the house and moved into another house down the road, Virgin then called me just over a month ago telling me that I owed them £159 as this payment was back dated from Sept-Dec of when I left them and that they have passed my details onto a DCA.
I refused the pay the outstanding bill for the simple fact is I couldnt afford it, They wouldnt sort out any monthly payment plans they just wanted the £159 in 1 payment, However it was already too late as it was defaulted.
Ive just looked onto Equifax and its on my Credit report, As I applied for a loan of £8000 to pay of a few small finances + my car and pay the remainder to Virgin, However Im not able to get a loan now due to this default on my account.
Im just wondering if I pay off the £159 as the default happened in April(Thats what Equifax is showing) Will this remove the Default or will it still remain? And/Or is there any advice someone can give me to find out how I can possibly get this removed as I wasnt even informed of the bill until I was defaulted.
Thank you.

Defaults stay on your credit file for six years from the date they're put on there, paid or not. I think you have a shout at getting it removed though, as you could argue that the default notice was sent to the wrong address and you therefore weren't given the opportunity to rectify the issue.
That said, why is it Fujitsu's responsibility to tell them that you've moved? If you are Virgin's customer, it should be you that contacts them.
I wish you luck! What will your verse be?

Correctly applied defaults stay on your credit file for 6 years and will not be removed.
But as you didn't receive notice of the default, you might be able to get it removed.
other people have had them removed when notices have been sent to the wrong address.ISA £1675MiniMoohound savings £3685.86 :T Plus £3800 CTF

It wasnt that, I stopped working for Fujistu in September and they told me they will inform Virgin I am no longer a Staff Member however they didnt do that until December, I moved out to my new property in November, However I obviously didnt recieve any letters stating anything about the bill due to me not being at the Previous address.
The debt of £159 is for the bill from September to December from which the staff accounts was no longer active.0
