Advice re Tesco application

Or any supermarket online form really. I applied for Asda not so long ago, and was what I would call honest - e.g. put that I was a friendly person but don't go round smiling 100% of the time. I didn't get through.

So should I be honest or tell Tesco what they want to hear?

Do you really have to ask this question? It's a customer service role. Play up your friendliness and ability to get on with people. You don't have to say you smile 100 per cent of the time - just don't say you don't smile 100 per cent of the time.

My husband at the grand old age of 63 secured a job with Tesco.

The fact that he got a job at that age was a miracle, yet this was his third job over the age of 60.

What he did was, he DIDN'T go on-line. He wrote (or should I say I wrote on his behalf) a nice covering letter explaining he was leaving a job because they were moving to Manchester (we live in London) plus he was conscientious, honest and trustworthy, could walk to work, was happy to do any task and could be relied on to get into work and not take time off.

He attached his CV and voila! they offered a position doing the home shopping.

    Don't give up I say.

Put it this way, if you are rejected by Tesco for a direct application you won't hear back for three to five months, so tell them you're perfect. If an applicant speaks other languages make sure you emphasise this as larger Mr T store cashier staff have stupid badge slogans now like "I speak Greek/Spanish" or whatever non-English language they have.

Is "The Home Shopping" one of Tesco's warehouse-sized "ghost" stores where the online orders get picked?

At my local Tesco, the Dot Com Pickers, as they're called, pick the groceries in store not in a warehouse

Yes it was the name they used for Dot com pickers. He walked round the store selecting stuff for people who shopped on line.

The "ghost" stores as mentioned above are only in small numbers, i did read Tesco had plans to open up more of these stores but cant remember if it said plans were still to go ahead or not.

Basically the "ghost" stores are for Tesco Dot Com only eg theres no customers but just the shoppers who go round and complete customers shopping.
