debt after 10 years

not sure if this is the right forum for this but here it goes,about 10 years ago i contacted a solicitor to represent me on my two younger children legal custody, my children are now 18 and 16 and i only became in debt with this solicitor because the childrens dad made things very dificult and he did take me to the ground financialy and i could not afford anymore to pay the solcitor,in a mean while i lost my job became a single mum to my litte boy and since then am struggling financialy,now ten years later i had a bayliff coming to the door wanting to settle payment,can they do that after 10 years of not hearing from them? he did ask if he could talk to the person name on his file and i said it was me but can they still chase me after 10 years of not hearing from them?,i will be looking forward to read a reply on what to do about this.

Check the Registry Trust on-line to find out if there is a CCJ registered against you.

If a judgement was obtained over 6 years ago, it won't show at Registry Trust.

Did the bailiff leave any paperwork, or send any prior to the visit?

You need to establish

1. If there is a county court judgement and if so when was it issued?

2. Is the bailiff really a bailiff and when did the county court issue a warrant (or writ if this is High Court Enforcement)
