I'm not sure whether I'm allowed to post links to websites on here or not, I hope so, but there is a website where you can enter the details of a courier or removal job, in fact all sorts of jobs including man and van type jobs and so on, which you then receive bids for the job from people who'd like to do the job and at what price they'll do it.

A kind of ebay your courier or removal if you like - but you get to pick which bid, if any, you accept. They also sell packing materials on the site - though I don't know how they compare on price to anywhere else.

I just came across it the other day and from what I've seen so far - I've only used it to get quotes for a forthcoming long distance uk removal at an unspecified point in the next 6 months or so (bedroom tax ) - it seems to work well.

I got a large number of quotes back from £500 - £2000. I'd take a close look at people's feedback, especially any negative or neutral feedback, reputation score, and number of reviews of jobs completed. I noticed several that seemed to enter into a bidding war and to be honest I'll probably ignore those and stick with the ones that come in with only 1 bid.

I can't vouch for it's effectiveness but I will say I like what I see. It's a sort of compare a removal or courier job site I suppose - but better?

    You'll find it here - http://www.anyvan.com/

Anyway, give it a whirl and please come back and let us know if it's any good or not, if you decide to use it to get your removal done. I'll do likewise as I'm fairly sure we'll use this site to book our move when we eventually manage to find a suitable already adapted property to move into - once we somehow find the funds to move.

PS Why doesn't the rolleyes smiley work on this forum? Any mod's out there able to get it added please? Or am I doing it wrong?
All my friends and neighbours helped me pack and move for free, at first I was happy until I got told no one liked me and they just wanted to make sure I left. Thanks Mum and Dad.

Nursing homes are continually receiving deliveries of adult pads and nappies in large cardboard boxes and from my experience they seem to arrive in batches of at least 6 boxes a couple of times a week. The boxes in my Mum's home are folded flat and put out in the recycling bin. If you have a local home they may be able to give you some. The boxes are large and will hold quite a lot of stuff but they are a medium thickness of cardboard and maybe not suitable for filling with heavy items. Good for clothing bedding etc .
