And unemployment increases by 15k this month to reach 7.8%.

Zero hour contracts are still on the increase too. So in a lot of cases though who aren't unemployment may not actually be that "well" employed either.

I'm not sitting here sobbing about this news, neither am I jumping up and down in glee, before the usual comments pour out for posting this up.

Just wondering how long all this can go on for. It amazes me how the country just keeps on rolling seemingly unaffected at the moment by realities.

It will keep rolling all the time the goverment keeps sticking its oar in

The uk economy feels like a dam. Its about to break under the immense pressure, hence leaks appear. The goverment comes along and plugs the gaps, to show the people how they are here to solve the immediate issues and keep them safe, but its only a matter of time before the damn will completely give way

The real solution would be to let them dam go and build a new one, but that means people will get flooded and hurt along the way

How about employment though Graham? It is possiblr to have rising employment and rising unemployment if the workforce is increasing because of population changes or increasing participation rates (resulting from benefit changes?)

The doom and gloom that is obviously very real in large parts of the country seems a world away from London and the SE where house prices are booming and the increase in GDP in the stats seems to match the general mood that the recession is over and the 'good times' are returning.
    I think....

You should edit your title then.

I'm not sure we're unaffected by realities. If you read the views of the privileged people on this board, sitting in their affluent part of the home counties on savings, 100% housing equity, and a very rosy glow from the last four decades that have served them very well then you may think we are unaffected.

If you're a young person crippled with graduate debt, someone who wants to buy a house, someone who needs to sell a house and cant due to negative equity, or pretty much anyone who is having to fight for a place in the labour market; then things look pretty grim.

Britain has fallen from 5th to 11th in world rankings for income per head. The plates are starting to wobble and fall down.

As a country we simply cant afford to go on paying benefits to rich people and crippling what should be an upcoming middle class with housing costs engineered to favour the baby boomers.
