Yet another example of companies trying to get people to go "self employed" when in reality they are employees and the company is trying to reduce costs, probably to undercut the competition. If your skills are in demand as you suggest then you could accept the pay cut, or offer to work four days, whilst you look for another job. The HMRC link in one of the posts above is an excellent introduction to being "self employed", if this is the route you choose to go.

Interesting that you were all called in "individually". When people complain about "the power of the unions" they should realise that Unions help protect employees against this sort of abuse, by helping you all to work together to prevent you being exploited in the race to the bottom in employment that we have now, with companies who treat employees well and pay decent wages being forced out of business by other companies that force everyone to become "self employed".

Exactly how we felt, no notice that we were even getting called in until we got to work.
Wehave agreed to go self employed, we will look for other employment at the same time.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Dont take this the wrong way but I really do think you have made the wrong choice.

TBH I'd be speaking to HMRC about this.
Bedroom Tax / Spare room subsidy / Housing Benefit Reduction - It's the same thing, get over it.

Sounds to me like they want to cut their employees without having to pay redundancy. What a scam!

I value your opinion chris, as I said earlier I was put on the spot and had to make a decision. Hopefully I will find something else soon.
