DH has got himself a lovely bean grinding coffee maker from ebay.

But blimey beans are expensive. Does anyone know of the anywhere to get beans in bulk to save some pennies? Or are we just better off searching out beans on offer?

Costco do some nice beans, blended by Starbucks. Approved foods sometimes have beans that are past their BBE date.

Aside from the wholesalers like Costco, Lidl do inexpensive beans and according to my OH (I only drink tea) they make a lovely cup of coffee. They do Brazilian, Costa Rican, Ethiopian and Columbian beans.

Asda "Chosen By You Everyday Coffee" beans at £1.50 (227g) are probably worth a punt. They also have Extra Special Brazilian on a rollback to £2 (227g) at the moment and ES Colombian Fairtrade on the same promo..

Ikea have 250g bags of beans for £1.95 which is among the cheapest I've seen but at the moment we are using Asda extra special on offer at £2.00 for 227g and they seem pretty good

I have recently purchased a bean to cup machine so have been through all the coffee buying/tasting over the past couple of months.

I understand what you mean about how pricey the beans are but my experience of using fresh beans is if you purchase them in bulk or pre-packaged from supermarkets they are not as nice.

If you buy them freshly roasted and leave them to settle a week you will find them completely different. I pay around £4.50 per 250g freshly roasted and usually buy a few bags at a time. When you buy them from the supermarket they could have been roasted months and months earlier making them stale.

My OH will tell you I am tight as a ducks a*se and love my bargains as much as the next person:rotfl: but this is definately my one pleasure, I actually love making my coffee in the morning and can honestly say my coffees taste so much better than the Costa/Starbucks chains because of the freshness of the beans.

I use a place online called Hasbean which roast the beans and send them out same day and the customer service is fab. Be careful though, trying the different flavours gets Soooo addictive:D

I have also heard that a supermarket called Booths roast their beans daily and are highly recommended but I am yet to try these.

Just thought I would add my experience as it has taken over my life recently:D
