A Tiny Vegas Wedding

Options
Apart from the Bridezilla thread (I adore the Bridezillas :) ) I usually have little reason to venture onto this board. I've been married twice before once in a church, once in a registry office - and swore never again but...... here I am. I'm engaged to a lovely man who treats me like a princess but respects my independence too.

J has a huge family and I have almost none so if we'd got wed over here I think I'd have really missed my Mum and Dad who have both passed over so big wedding was never on the cards. Long, long time ago -before we were even talking about marriage I had said (talking about someone else's wedding-that if I was ever crazy enough to get married again I'd get hitched in Vegas-and bless his heart he remembered. Almost the first thing he said after proposing (almost ;) ) was "So shall we get married in Vegas?" :)

So we have a plan

A small ceremony in Vegas -we had thought just us - but my 21 year old DS and one of my best friends straight away said they are coming -and a few of my American friends want to come (we often meet up in Vegas to see shows) so not as low key as we first thought-but that's fine.

We want an outdoor ceremony -preferably with a waterfall :) at dusk.
I was amazed how many people book weddings in Vegas unseen except for photos and youtube videos ...or maybe I just want an extra holiday -so we're currently planning on a recce to Vegas in August to look at venues. So far definite ones to look at are Chapel of the Flowers, Artisan and the Flamingo-with a view to booking for next May.

HtB wants to wear a tux and I had said I wanted a tea length dress- not white or cream ............and then I saw what looks like *the* dress on ebay (I was only surfing for ideas honest) put in a low bid - and won it. It's ivory - more like an evening dress than a wedding dress and I'm hoping it's as gorgeous in the flesh as it looks in the photos. I'll know in a day or two :)

No reception as such -we were thinking just go out to dinner afterwards J wants the mega expensive place at the Paris hotel-I want the more modest al fresco place Mon Ami Gabe on the ground floor. So we shall see what happens ...He's never been to Vegas so his ideas may change once we get there ;)

We will have a party back home for friends and family when we get back of course.

So early days of planning -and I promise not to be a Bridezilla (well I hope so) and any suggestions gratefully accepted.

    Congratulations again duchy!

Hope the dress turns out OK :) Can we see it? It sounds a little like mine, love 50s tea length frocks. I got a box for mine and took it hand luggage, didn't trust them not to lose it! (OHs bag was misplaced, so glad we stuck to that plan!!) It did mean that it was a bit creased when we got there and it's silk so that meant hand iron, not a quick steam :( It wasn't cheap but they did a really good job, and the company we used did pick up/drop off to your hotel. Let me know if you want the company info.

On suits/tuxedos; OHs best man rented a tux, well the whole shebang (suit, shirt, waistcoat, vest, tie shoes and cufflinks) from Tuxedo junction (at Sahara & Valley View) for about $120 if your OH doesn't want to buy. It was so easy, just walk in, write your name in the book, they call you when it's your turn. A bit of a production line but it was quick and easy. When we were there it was the start of prom season so all the kids were there getting suited and booted with their bossy mums :D They also hemmed and pressed everything while we waited. I think we were in there about 30mins in total. Oh and they pick up from your hotel after so you don't have to schlep back out to return it.

The only other thing is that I highly recommend filling out your details in advance for your marriage license, meant it only took about 10mins to get as there was no one waiting. Don't need to worry about that until a month or so before you go though.

Hope this helps :) I'm sure I'll think of other stuff, will post when I do.

Please do -I'm going to need all the help I can get !

    Very helpful about tux hire-thanks.

J is in the middle of selling his house and moving to a new one -so our trip to check out the different venues is on hold until he has exchanged and we have a completion date but we think late August. In the meantime I'm driving myself nuts looking at youtube videos and reviews of the different chapels and hotel venues.

The dress is gorgeous -when I can get into photobucket I'll post a pic. It's full length after all with a beaded bodice -more of an evening type dress than a proper wedding dress -which is exactly what I want and will look right for a sunset wedding as it has subtle sequin detail on the shoulder straps. Not too heavy either. Ooo photobucket is working -Here it is :) My bargain £44 dress LOL

A friend of mine got married at the Little Chapel of the Flowers, not sure if it's the same one but they had a live web feed, so family here in UK were up in the wee hours watching the wedding! The meal was just the buffet at the Bellagio (I say "just" - I got full up just on the fish dishes!)

Yes that one is definitely on the list to visit for a look (the list gets longer and longer -I may see nothing but wedding chapels on my week's "holiday" lol)

I'll probably post some venue reviews when I get back either here or maybe the Vegas thread would be better ?

As we are hoping for a sunset wedding I was thinking Mon Ami Gabe at Paris on the patio would be a fab meal afterwards. J wants somewhere posher -we shall see ;)
