query about rebanding

My house (as with 50% of my street) has been deemed unmortgagable in recent years because of the concrete it is made of. This has considerably reduced its value. However the council tax band (B) remains the same as the 50% of the street made of granite, even though these are now worth approx £60,000 more. Does the structure of the building (and hence its value) bare any significance at all in council tax banding? I have recently looked at the whole streets banding and only one house (a granite, more valuable one) is band A. We are all very similar in size, and most, like my own have loft conversions. Obviously, in 1991 there was no knowledge of the unmortgagable state some of these house's are in. Any insight gratefully appreciated.

As you mention granite construction, are you in Scotland?
However, whether in Scotland, England or Wales, anything which would affect the value of the dwelling should be reflected in the band.
I suggest you contact VOA or Assessor (whichever is appropriate) and ask why the Band A house is in Band A and if they have taken the construction of your home into account when assessing the band.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
