threat of solicitors action

Hi, Wonder if anyone could help or know the correct course of action, I have just been contacted by CAPQUEST debt recovery for an outstanding balance on a credit card, which I had last year arranged a direct debit payment lpan for.
The amount is £1800 and last year wth the same company i arranged this payment plan obviously thinking quite relieved to sort something out, but unknown to me the payment s stopped and I dont know why, I know I should have kept an eye on my payments, but im probably in the position of many others and dont like looking at them!
They know contact me for the whole balance and asking me for my work details and how much mortgage i pay every month, which i was reluctant to give, not wanting them to contact my work, i am a teacher. I remember last time I think i might have prepared a letter with a breakdown of my earnings and offer of a payment plan of £ 35 per month.
But know i dont know what to do after this, its quite worrying especially as i'm trying to change my mortgage at the moment and hope it doesnt affect my chances,
If any one could shed more light on a correct course of action I would be very appreciative,
John

Sounds like you need National debtline's self-help pack
£35 - £50 is a perfectly reasonable offer. If you can justify it with income/expenditure details don't let them push you into a higher offer.
If you have other debts you probably should address them as a whole using CCCS or similar.
Good luck! And yes it will be affecting your credit rating.0
