Reception venues near Exeter

Can anyone recommend any cheap reception venues near Exeter for about 50 people. My ideal venue would be on the river Exe or in a rural location (but I expect that whacks up the cost!)

Would hiring a boat and travelling from Exmouth to Exeter and back be appropriate? Or is that too small/tacky?

I went on a work-organised evening cruise on one of those once.

    A couple spring to mind:

Double Locks, I know they do wedding receptions if you would be open to marrying elsewhere.

As another poster said a river boat cruise would be lovely, I have been to a wedding reception on a boat on the River Dart and that was lovely.

Friends got married at Fishermans Cot, near Bickleigh and that was a beautiful venue, right by the river and not too expensive.

Have you been to Mill on the Exe, they have a funcion room downstairs which is free to hire if you are having food for 50 people and thye rope off a section outside for just your party, they can do a carvery, BBQ or set menu etc depending on your price. Although this was hit by floods not that long ago. Might be worth a look though if you like it there.
