Eurovision party food

We're having a Eurovision party at ours on Saturday and I want to do a few nibbles (not a buffet, just stuff to pick at) and would love to make it European themed, without going OTT.

I don't want to have plates out, so nothing messy or too crumbly would be good.

So far, I was thinking of doing some little spanish tortillas, pizza bites and putting out some olives.

Bit stuck now. I love cooking so any recipes would be good.

Oh, and veggie if possible please with a mix of sweet and savoury (blimey, don't want much, do I?!?)

Everything I find online seems to be for buffets and sit down meals.

Any help you lovely lot?

Thanks

It sounds like tapas type food is what you are looking for. I know you don't want to do plates, but napkins might be a good idea in case anyone is a messy eater.

Stuffed tomatoes. Cut a tiny bit off top and bottom. Scoop out the middle and drain upside down on kitchen towel. Fill with cream cheese mixed with finely chopped onion, garlic and dill.

Baby stuffed potatoes. Microwave potatoes until cooked through then scoop out the centre and mix with sour cream, thyme, chives, salt and pepper. Cut a tiny sliver off the bottom of the potato so it stands up, then spoon the mix back into the potatoes and keep in fridge until needed. Top with a little grated cheese and Pop into a hot oven for about 10mins before serving.

Stuffed mushrooms. Remove stems, chop and fry with breadcrumbs then combine cream cheese and garlic. Mix and fill the mushrooms. Top with grated cheese and pop into a hot oven until the cheese topping is done.

I believe there were recent stories where supermarkets were surreptitiously opening the palates of poorer customers to some European flavours.

I don't use Morrisons - does anyone know what ideas they had?

Thanks for all the ideas so far - tapas sounds interesting.

Keep the ideas coming, please. I need all the help I can get.

Industrial quantities of paracetamol, razor blades, dignitas vouchers, live wires in the bathtub. That just about wraps up my buffet ideas if I were made to watch Eurovision. Hope this helps....

Maybe have something British too? What about mini Yorkshire puddings with a dab of horseradish and little snip of roast beef on top?

Mini frankfurters in mini finger rolls?

    Pitta's and hummous.

I think in Amsterdam, chips with salad cream is popular ;) very easy to do

For puds, mini apple pies, baklava? (Could be messy), mini Danish pastries?

    Can I come? :rotfl:

Alioli and nicely sliced french stick along with the olives would be snack enough for me nomnomnom! Its generally put out on the tables in all the restaurants in Mallorca to nibble while you're waiting for food. They sell it in Morrisons but not sure where else. Its a garlicy mayo type thing and divine!
Many thanks to everyone who posts competitions and works so hard to provide all the answers!

Morrisons magazine is online. This is the Eurovision article.

I haven't read it myself so can't vouch for any food suggestions ;)
