    Do not pay until you have the letter. They will just sell the other half of the debt to the DCA and you will be stuffed.

    And stop talking to them on the phone unless you record the calls.

    Why would they be trying to pull a fast one they are supposed to be a big reputable company, they told me that the offer of 50% off only stands until Friday so I don't know what to do.

    There's nothing special about Friday. Follow the advice already given. If you like you can email them but you require their response on letterheaded paper.
