enforcing a CCJ

Hi, I am hoping there will be some experts online to help advise.
I am an individual who is owed money by an ex 'friend'. not a million pounds or great amount, but it has been owed so long that this is now a matter of principal and not letting them get away with it.
I have started the process of small claims court and i'm now at the second stage where a CCJ will be issued due to them not responding.
I am extremely unconvinced that a CCJ will make them pay. Can anyone advise on how i would go about enforcing a CCJ with a view to maybe either having an attachment of earnings added, or going down the baliff route.
also an idea of roughly how much it would cost would be helpful aswell. I imagine it will cost me more to enforce than it would the amount owed, but as i say this is now a matter of principal. It would also be useful to know whether they would end up having costs added to their debt so that they end up paying for the process rather than myself being financially out of pocket for it.
All advice welcome.
Many thanks
