Next. Grrr.

Would be grateful for any wisdom ...

My 16 y.o. dd has recently got a job at a branch of Next. She was due to start work on Saturday and travelled in to town all ready for her first day earning money.

However, she was not allowed to work her shift because her supervisor wanted to see her birth certificate and her national insurance number card.

The thing is, they already have a copy of her birth certificate because she took it when she went for her interview and then again when she attended an induction. So I guess they've lost it. Also, they seem to be unaware that NI number cards were phased out two years ago so no 16 y.o. will have one. They already have her NI number. DD does have a letter from HMRC informing her of her number and so she could show that to Next. But why didn't they ask for it at interview or induction instead of letting her turn up for work and then sending her home?

Anyway, I am really cross with Next but can't really interfere because of course it's not really anything to do with me. Except that I paid DD's wasted bus fare on Saturday and now they want her to go in to town especially to show them her birth certificate (again!) and the NI letter. Each trip to town is costing me £3.64! I am paying for their incompetence.

Not to mention that fact that DD expected to work on Saturday and obviously be paid!

Grrr. Rant. Any constructive advice? Or should I just forget it?

I would provide the information and then ask for the days pay. If she was contracted to work the day, then she should be paid. Its not here fault admin cant do there job.

    Hope it gets sorted soon!
