Anyone been successful claiming council tax

Hi,

From the link on the homepage I have worked out that our house should be in Band B for the council tax instead of C.

Has anyone had any success in claiming money back for being in the wrong band ?

Any tips for claiming it ?

    Hi

I was successful in getting a rebanding but it took time. I started paying at the increased rate and challenged it, just had to keep chasing them and calling them. Eventually as I had been paying around £50 a month more than I should've been it meant that my payments came tumbling down for the last few months to about £50 a month...

  • We just heard the other week from the VOA that our application to be rebanded was successful. We changed from band F to band E, although the paperwork still has to be finalised and the council tax bill altered. I was told by the VOA that I would be refunded the overpayments from the council (about £580 altogether), although I haven't heard from the council yet - it will take a few weeks apparently. From what I've gathered, people either get a straight refund or a reduced bill (I'd rather have the refund ;) )

Full story will be posted after we get the money :)

My colleague was successful and yes it took time (12 months or over I believe).

They got a back paid sum plus future bills are cheaper so worth doing.

The problem they now have is all the neighbours keeping coming around wanting help to do the same.
    Regards,

What happens if you apply for rebanding only to find that they want to move up UP a band? Are you liable for the differences over the years if this happens?

I'm in the process of challenging my banding...and had a letter this week (five weeks after submitting the query with the Valuation Office) and was advised that because of recent press reports the volume of work investigating banding queries means that they are unlikely to have an answer for me for approximately three more months.
