Do your own DMP - it is fairly easy - work out your statement of means (incomings outgoings etc)

I used the one in the link below

    http://www.britishinvasion.co.uk/soa/soaedit.php

It does most of the adding up for you - then work out how much to pay each creditor on a pro rata basis

individual debt x surplus per month divide by total owed = individual offer.

I don't have a mortgage though, so don't have to think about that aspect

Sorry, ive got about 28k in unsecured debt and no mortgage so they said they cannot help me unless i earn more- but even if i get a second job i need to be working in it for 6 months before i can try again.
Im worried about doing it alone, i was hoping they'd take my case on.

If you do a SOA, see SouthernScousers sticky, then people should be able to offer more detailed help.

I know you must be really worried right now, but try not to panic and with all the figures in front of you, it should be possible to work something out.

If you can handle the irritating phone calls it is really very straightforward - I have £62 K of unsecured debt and only £90 a month left over to pay the debts and apart from 2 all have frozen interest and charges and are accepting the payments.

There are loads on here that can help you sort it out - feel free to pm me if you want any more info

I know someone with one and she was rejected at first, but then they were able to renegotiate. I know she doesn't have a mortgage...

I would do it yourself I do via the national debt helpline - saying that you are not alone they are a phone call away if you need them and all the template letters etc are there. You can download the payment calculator and pack today anyway. Maybe reading through that will make you feel more empowered.

As for taking phone calls I take none at all! I changed my number I deal by letter with everyone and I have found it actually beneficial because I have been able to trip companies up you know one person says one thing by letter another another and I push for the one I fancy most!

Seriously it can be done with a pack of stamps and determination!

BT changed my phone number for free and I just told family that I was having nuisance calls from companies and no one questioned it.

If you need any more help just shout!
