Ways to earn cash back on petrol

Options
Hi, my partner and I use a lot of petrol between us. Does anyone know the best way to make money out of this? I'm thinking cashback card or fuel card? Specifics would be great. Thanks

Fuel cards are rarely more than a billing system. The Santander 1-2-3 card offers a capped 3% which should meet your needs.

How much is a lot of petrol?

A lot of cashback cards, comes with tiered cashback rates depending on how much you spend.

Also need to work out, some cashback cards come with an annual fee which may wipe out savings made.

Need to consider your credit rating and history and income.

Capital One Aspire Elite, offers a high 2% cashback rate, if you spend over £15,000 (approx £300/week) a year, 1% below that. Income required is £50,000/year. High £120 annual fee though.

Alternatively, the American Express Platinum cashback offers, 1.25% cashback, with 2.5% in the anniversary month of account opening, if you spend over £10,000 year (approx £200/week). Reasonable £25 annual fee.

Both come with 5% cashback introductory offers.

Don't forget to use the petrol station's own reward scheme, too (Shell Driver's Club, BP/Sainsburys Nectar, Tesco Clubcard, etc.)

I've got a Shell Drivers Club card, that gives you a point every time you buy a litre of fuel, and I think 1000 points brings a £10 gift voucher. If you use VPower instead, it's 2 points per litre. Not big money, but better than a poke in the eye.

Trouble is, in a lot of cases Shell fuel is relatively expensive, though there are exceptions, such as Princess Parkway on the way into Manchester.
