Thanks for all the suggestions! I haven't got time to check them all out this morning but I'll have a look this evening! Really appreciate all your help! It's tricky trying to plan a wedding somewhere you don't live! We're trying to draw up a good short list though for the few weeks we'll have between moving down to Bristol and starting work to get the ball rolling.

forgot this one as well i went to a party there a few years ago but they do a offer of a wedding for 50 people inc sit down meal for £1000 so you would have plenty to play with they are licensed for the ceremony as well + Queen Elizabeth stayed their in the 80;s when she got stuck in a snow storm so if its good enough for the Queen of England :D

Im sure that you could arrange the hog roast that you want its a great location just outside of bristol with lots of parking and they seem to do the sort of menus that you want as

    Hi everyone

Here's an update on what I've found out so far:
    - Avon Gorge Hotel would be around £8100 for 75 guests (hog roast; price includes some extras such as DJ, floral decorations, table plan, bridal suite).
    - Goldbrick House would be around £5000 for 70 guests (hot pulled pork & apple rolls for the evening catering; also includes wine with the afternoon tea wedding breakfast which the other quotes do not).
    - The Square would be around £4400 for 70 guests (hog roast).
    - Old Down Country Park & Manor would be around £11,250 for 70 day guests and an extra 10 evening guests (hog roast). I should note that the catering prices seem comparable to the other quotes but, for some reason, the venue hire is a whopping £7,500. I think we'll be crossing this one off the list.
    - Leigh Court would be around £8200 for 75 guests with an extra 5 in the evening (hog roast).

I also need to price up (although not for an afternoon tea/hog roast necessarily) Glassboat, Riverstation, and Brasserie Blanc (Bakers/Cutlers Hall). I'm awaiting catering information on Mansion House, Goldney Hall and Clifton Hill House but they might be good options.

What a shame oldown is so expensive, its a beautiful place and the restaurant meals in the evenings are lovely. Avon Gorge is a stunning venue and my cousin had a wonderful wedding there, but she didn't have the outside area exclusive to the wedding, so regular customers were there as well. Leigh Court is a bit of a traditional wedding location in Bristol. Setting be gorgeous if its sunny, lots and lots f outside space for any children to be children!!

Price up Westonbirt, they do beautiful weddings as well.

    Enjoy your day.

    You also have the http://www.ssgreatbritain.org/weddings-events
if you want to get married right on the boat itself on the waterfront

If for example you were to marry on the ship then the Pump House Resturant which is opposite side of the river is fabulous location for a private dinner / hog roast meal which they do offer

You can have the inside and the outside terrace /balcony and its a fab location right in the city centre of bristol and a really nice location and building
