I put stuff in the microwave, out of the way of the cats, often, becuase it's too hot for the fridge. Always forget it and find it the next day! Always eat it too, and we've never suffered.

there was a programme on uk food a while back were this guy cooked a joint of beef for about 20+ hours on very low, it was still pink in the middle and all the `grissly` bits were loverly and tender.
so beef can be left this way.

You will die a slow painful death

NOT! I would eat it. We need to start an anti food paranoia movement! I have a friend whose DH will not eat anything without a sell by date on it, so everything they get is pre packaged. What a shame.

Wow, really, that is not good is it?? I make sure eggs are OK by outting them in water!! LOL!! I put everything in the fridge and generally it does last longer, milk, vegetable, potatoes, they all live in the fridge and I never follow the dates. If it smells funny it gets thrown away!! But I don't really go by the dates at all to be honest, but I do keep stuff in the fridge. Another thing to note is that my kids have never, ever had a tummy bug (oh god, I've spoken too soon!) but they have never had a food related illness and one is 3 and the other 4!! Last week I gave them Rowntree Jelly Snakes and when I looked at the date it was dated Oct 06. LOL, oops. Isn't it funny how when you check the dates it seems like you bought it last month but the dates is about 4 months over. Or is that just me.....?

This a joint of beef that was cooked and then left in the oven, switched off, overnight ...?

It will be fine. If you're in the slightest bit concerned, then put the joint through the processor (carefully), turn it into mince and make a cottage pie, bolognese or other cooked beef dish.

Beef lasts about 4-5 days in our house and, if there are still leftovers, it gets recycled into something else (like cottage pie). Admittedly, it spends most of that time in the fridge, but typically, it's out on the worksurface on the day it's cooked, just covered in loose foil.

I'm struggling to see where the "health risk" might be ...

I would say if it smells OK I would go for it. I might mince it with a bit of sage (it's antiseptic apparently - one reason it's in stuffing for chickens) and make rissoles, cottage pie, curried mince or chili

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!

It will be fine, either eat it cold or make sure you re-heat it throughly......
