santander have gone quiet....good thing?

Morning all.

We took a loan out with allaince and leicester in 2006 for £4000. we defaulted on this as we then set up a dmp, and were paying £30 a month.

Santander then took over from allaince and leicester and so we continued paying santander. They kept saying on the phone that the account was being transferred to debt collectors etc over and over for about 18mths but I assume this was never done as we didnt hear anything!

In sept last yr there was £980 owed.I wrote to santander and offered them £500 in full and final settlement as I was leaving my job to become a student nurse, with only a bursary to support my family and so I could no longer pay them £30 a month. They replied stating that they would only accept full payment and they dont do part settlements etc.So I stopped paying them.....

and have heard NOTHING since.Only a statement which is issued annually. No phone calls, letter,Nothing.

My question is, do i call them and ask whats happening,ie.why havent they been in touch, what is happening with the debt etc?
Do you have any advice?thanks

because they could not afford 30 quid a month. it would have been better to offer a quid or a f&f. they were hoping that you would keep paying. they probably are selling it on to some debt collector.

They will probably sell it at some point. Odd they have kept it that long with no action though.

Choices seem to be either poke the bear or sit back, save the cash and wait for them to write to you.

What do you want to achieve from this, get rid of it?

Whats it show as on your credit report?

As pre-2007, might be worth a CCA request, as if they don't have it or its junk they cant get a CCJ and it helps to get a reduced settlement figure. If Santander won't play ball, let them sell it on and a DCA will likely bite your arm off for what you offered.

I don't understand why you stopped paying. Couldn't you have continued to pay £30 a month out of the £500 you set aside for F&F?

Now your husband is working again, this would seem a good time to make contact and restart your payment arrangement.

Agree with this, you could of saved the £500 to continue paying them for a while?
