I've just used the above calculator & the outcome is the calculator seems to x my earnings by 5.5, is this correct or is it being over generous ?

Well that may be their decision, but is it something you would do?

As a borrower you would be responsible for repayment, only duty on lender is to get their money back, don't borrow this much if you don't need to and there would be no chance of a mis selling claim.

The calculator should be considering things like commitments such as dependents and other credit. But simply put I wouldn't borrow that much.
