Will it be easier to declare myself bankrupt

Chicca1
As already mentioned in other posts, I owe £40k to Natwest and Barclays. I've offered f&f payment. So far Natwest refused. I'm leaving the UK in August. My concern is that once I am gone, they may send baliffs round to my house (my friend very kindly let me stay here for the last few years). She knows nothing of the debt. I don't want her being inconvenienced in any way.
Do I start returning the letters from the banks saying..."does not live here anymore..." OR
Do I apply to the court for bankruptcy as I will no longer have an income from end August when I plan on leaving the UK?
Do I write to them once more reminding them that I am leaving permanently & offer them another chance at accepting my f&f stating that I am in the process of considering bankruptcy as an option (in the hope they may settle?)
Please help!!!!

Already commented on another post I think.
If you are concerned about your friend, you can redirect your post for 2 years, pricey mind to SA.

Won't stop anyone knocking on their door, fairly unlikely, or the odd screw up by Royal Mail, it does happen.
What ideally are you hoping to achieve when you leave the UK?:beer:0 -
The site you refer to - mailredirection.info - is a scam.
Only Royal Mail can redirect mail from the UK and they do not accept instructions from third parties. You have to apply yourself either online at royalmail.com or in person in a post office.
This site captures your personal details and takes your money, but cannot and does not set up a mail redirection.
Steer well clear !

Sorry about the link, meant to be the royal mail one.
Logic still stands though:beer:0 -
tell your creditors that you have moved to SA. they should then not bother your friend. but they will need an address. if your out of the country with no assets here then they can't start legal action against you. the consummer action group has a section that deals with overseas debt. worth speaking to them and seeing if british debt is chaseabe in SA0

Thanks for your reply. I'm leaving for good. Getting married and never coming back. Do I need to give them my parents address as forwarding address in SA?
Thanks.0 -

Thank you. At what point do I provide them with a SA address? I really don't want my friend to be bothered.
Will check with the Consumer Action Group. Thanks.0 -
