FTB -risk applying to HSBC?
Comments

We applied to HSBC for a 5 year fixed rate fee free 90% mortgage last week (£250k mortgage on a £290k property) and had it approved within 24 hours. We're FTBs also, but we have both been with the bank for 20+ years, so yes it is quite doable. Our mortgage is only 2.5 x income though so this definitely went in our favour.0

HSBC are conservative with salary multiple. If you bank with them then use them. if not, open an advance account, then apply for a mortgage. they are more helpful to account holder.
I was rejected at first but reapplied (almost a year later) when i had a account opened with them for six months and it was accepted.0
