installed 16 panels on south facing roof last November - performing very well so far - in 6 months have generated 1252 units of which 845 have been exported to NIE. I am quite happy with the performance - looking at last week the performance was

34 units generated - average 5 units a day earning me about 17p per unit

13 of these units used and 23 exported - earning me a further 5p per unit for the exported units

    Total estimated income - £6.93

Units needed from grid - 35 - average 5 units per day needed costing 14p per unit

    Cost of electricity - £4.90

Did quite a few powerhungry jobs this week - washing machine, dishwasher, several times, oven in use most days, powerwasher to clean outside paving.

I estimate that the income will cover the electricity costs on an ongoing basis and leave a small surplus. As the payments are guaranteed the outlay represents an annual cost of £350 for my electricity for a 96 sq metre detached 3 bedroom house for the forseeable future. Last year I was paying £51 a month by direct debit so measuring £350 against £612 is good - and as prices are bound to increase the comparison should become more favourable.

Can heartily recommend my installer - http://www.bluebuildenergy.com/home

Big question, how long before a return on your outlay??
  • Hi CL,
We had a system fitted last year and it out performed estimates !
Very happy with the install from start to finish, would highly recommend Edge Electrical & Renewables Ltd (edge-er.co.uk)
We have got an SMA inverter which are supposed to be very good.
    Best Regards

I'd love to see those sums, especially with panel degradation and inevitable inverter failure.
