Rather than like a festering third world dump in this colour video from 1927

Fantastic. Thanks for posting that.
London always looks nice! London Rocks! What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
London is pretty clean and tidy, on the whole, these days....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Be interesting to know average house prices related to average household income at that time?
I would guess a lot less than today.0 -
That's lovely, thanks Rugged. It's interesting seeing London with a working port and horses and carts on the street. The number of buses, while higher now, is not massively higher (approx 8.5k per TfL) and would have moved a lot more effectively on those uncrowded streets.
The saddest part though is that this was before 25% of London's housing stock was destroyed or damaged in WW2.
I agree with NDG too though. London looks great now. The mass clean-up of the buildings in the 1980s and 90s, and the use of better and more sympathetic lighting helps a lot there. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Loking at the charts the difference between average wages and average property prices is very high today compared with the long term norm.
The other inteesting thing is the speed in the video, about the same today. Most cities the average speed is less than a horse drawn cart.0
