Second Job

in Cutting tax
I've trawled the site and the forum and can't see this actual question explained but forgive me if I've missed something.
I have a part time PAYE job that takes me over the personal allowance so I pay tax and NI. I'd like to work more hours for a second employer although I'd only make an additional £50/week (approx) so would be earning about £16000/year total gross.
Would this second job automatically be taxed at a higher rate?

You would pay 20% tax on all of your earnings from your second job.
The same as what you pay on all extra pay on your first job over the tax thresh hold.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks for such a speedy reply! So it looks like it would be no different from increased hours in job 1.0

If you did increased hours in your main job you would pay more NI (12% of extra pay assuming on A rate) but on a second job providing it has no connection with your first job there would be a second NI allowance given so no NI to be paid on earnings up tp £149 a week. So earnings from second job could put more in your pocket than extra hours in your main job.0 -
You're right Chrisbur, I had completely forgotten about the 2nd job NI allowance.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
