One TV Aerial...4 Tv's

Wow, been having some issues lately with the TV reception with the TV's upstairs. We thought it was down to the roof aerial pointing the wrong way, for some reasons its now pointing into the roof tiles. This is not the way to the local antenna.
Looking further, we found that the upstairs TV feeds were fed from a 2-way splitter with a -3db loss, then into a 4-way -6db splitter upstairs.
If the aerial was receiving 1 watt, then downstairs TV would receive 0.5 watt, whilst each TV upstairs 0.125 watt. Not good..
We always wondered why the upstairs TV's could not get the same channels as downstairs.

Well, the aerials got to be your starting point. Get that pointing the right way or even replaced with a modern Freeview aerial and that could make a lot of difference.

Mind you, we're a bit spoilt here in Epsom where our ancient aerial is quite a few miles from, but line of site of the Crystal palace mast.
I'm running numerous splitters as the lead wends its way around our property feeding TV, DVD recorder & old VHS recorder (lounge) ... TV and Humax PVR (kitchen) ... TV and USB TV decoder (Hobbies room) ... and all with perfect reception of every Freeview channel available from CP without any boosters. :T... Yeah, hopefully the aerial man will arrive tomorrow to put it right. Then we can look at what the TV's are doing upstairs.
I am probably going to remove the downstairs -3db splitter and re-route a few coax's to enable 1x 4-way splitter to be used. 0.25 watt is a 200% improvement over 0.125 watt existing.0 -
After sorting the aerial out.....
You should come out of the aerial then split it 4 ways, so that each TV gets the same level.0 -
I have a Four way booster, before digital tv came out, 1 for each bedroom, 1 for downstairs, and i put a 2 way splitter on the last connection, to give me 5, which i ended up using for my neighbour due to water in her coaxial cable and the fact she couldnt afford the £80 for call out to replace the cable. No problems with any of the rooms even on digital.0

All sorted..
Aerial was moved to the right direction, then the coax was replaced as it was split/joined half way down.
Channel 11 before was 12%. Afterwards it was 96%.
I've split the coax downstairs at the entry to the house, then upstairs its split to 3 outputs. Its probably 60% upstairs which is acceptable, as the downstairs tv is used all the time.
£25 all sorted..0
