How far do lenders look at address history?

Hi :)

I have posted previously about late payments and how they affect mortgage applications. I have lived at my current address for 3 and a half years. The one account that has the late payments on it is still registered to my old address (having trouble getting them to switch it over as it is to be done in writing and they are ignoring my letters!) I am thinking that if the banks check 6 years history they will also look at my previous address which will show this account? I suppose I am wondering if there is any way around this or if I am best to leave it at the old address as it is an unused card with some late payment markers on (1's). The most recent was November 2011.

We have a broker who to be honest isn't giving me much confidence. He has us an agreement from Halifax which I have since found out is pretty meaningless. Just at a loss now as not sure what to do for the best.

Thanks for any input or advice

They will look at your credit file as it stands, which will include 6 years' worth of history, regardless of where you are/are not currently living. This card will show as part of that overall picture, no matter which address it's registered to. It'll show as an address to which you're currently associated (as you still have credit there), or as a previous address.

However, the wisdom on this forum is that older, smaller and less frequent missed payments on your credit file aren't necessarily mortgage deal-breakers.

In any instance, you can look at your own credit files, ideally through all 3 credit reference agencies - Experian, Equifax and Callcredit. Experian and Equifax can be obtained either via free trials (be sure to cancel on time), or you can have a 'snapshot' from each for a statutory £2.00 fee. Callcredit can be accessed free (no trial) via https://www.noddle.co.uk.
  • Thank you for your help :) that's good to know.. Was beginning to think I had made a mistake trying to get them to change over the address.

Does anyone know then if that will have been picked up from the Halifax mortgage agreement as I know it only checks 3 years but not other addresses?
