And it is near Syrian border.
  • Hi tysoup,
I had implants fitted in 1987 as a 25th anniversary present, 2 have now deteriorated, I had one replaced by the chap who did the originals, bone drilled out and implant fitted at same time, but he has now retired.
Could you give me information how I could contact Ekrem, the prices that are quoted here are the same as I paid in 1987, I would have thought that they should have come down by now.

    Regards macilroy

I didn't even know implants were available in 1987?
I had my crown fitted in early 1980s & the dentist didn't even mention an implant to me.

Implants have been available since the sixties. They were first successfully used to keep in full dentures.

They had mixed results and didn't begin to become mainstream until late eighties . I remember in the mid eighties seeing some horrific dental implant failures where they had been used to replace numerous teeth and failed taking most if the jaw bone with them.

Eighties implants were quite big and bulky and were not often used to replace single teeth only.

since the eighties technology has improved and techniques such as bone grafting, sinus lifts etc have improved and unfortunately the regulation of British dentistry and associated costs have also massively increased. The person who I refer implants to estimates it's cost them £250,000 in additional costs to place implants, just to buy the the disposable bits to place one system has cost £12,000 . Hence the cost in the UK to place implants is what it is.

I'd be quite concerned if my dentist was stopping at work till 11pm so as to fit me and mine into a very short space of time.
I think I'd rather have an alert and awake dentist who was taking the time he needed to do a proper job rather than a knackered one rushing so I could get a quick flight home.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
