The wife and I just went over our finances with a fine tooth comb and noticed our vodafone bill was higher than expected. Well it was actually very close to what our bill is usually but we SHOULD have been benefitting from a 20% discount and we thought it odd we wern't seeing the discount yet
So we dug out all the contract paperwork detailing the discount and its timing, found all emails keeping us informed of status/timescales, signed up to view our online bills and what did we find......?
A bloomin' £4.50 weekly charge from a bloomin' ringtone company in France that we never signed up to but have been paying for 2 months!!!!!!
The best we can figure it out is my phone has a lot of free apps on it that are sponsored by advertising. We think my 2 year old has hit a banner on one of these apps whilst playing unsupervised on my phone and that evidently is enough to subscribe to the charges
There is no recourse for us. The fault is mine for letting her play on the phone unsupervised, for ignoring the "reminder" texts I got that told me I was subscribed to the service (I thought if I replied "Stop" that this would in fact charge me and that the best thing to do was ignore) and for not checking my bills until now
It seems to be a torch app called Flashlight that is at the root of this. The annoying thing is I don't even use the app because if I ever need a torch I just switch to video camera mode and put on the flash

On the plus side, we are getting the 20% discount we were expecting. We just couldn't see it because this subscription was cancelling it out
that is really annoying. but at least you have found it now and not after 6 months. These companies are real scammers, bet you are not the first that this has happened to.When I grow old, I dont want people thinking "what a sweet old lady" I want them to think
"oh carp what is she up to now!"0 -
I got a few good whoopsies tonight at Ts, bacon 32p and freshly squeezed OJ 25p, and 10p rolls at As. :j
No guesses what I will be having for breakfast.
I popped into mum's on the way home and brought back two more big carrier bags full of food, tins and jars this time. Have managed to get it all in my larder. :T
Have packed few bits for food bank but I am going to have to get to like plum jam as food bank won't have that as homemade. And I have kept the prunes, used to eat them as a kid with custard so will give it a go and pack them off if I don't. Not sure anyone else will even attempt them. :eek:0 -

So I decided to pick up a few items-tomatoesx8, pastax6 etc. At the tills there was a sweet old boy that was happy to put the items and coupons in all together but when the pasta coupons did not scan he checked with the superviser that said for him to do separate transactions, therefore shopping all cancelled and each item and coupon used per transaction, luckily it wasnt busy and they were very helpful
:):)
I didn't go until gone 5pm, other store to the one I usually see you in.
I got a few so have some to spare will leave them in the boot for you.
You are very brave using that many coupons. I just used 2 today from link someone posted for page of them but they would not scan and should of as tomatoes.

I know, just really reallly annoying to have lost that money.
There are so many people in the same boat. Have spent ages reading about it all and I've realised there is simply nothing to do as it's my own fault for giving her the phoneApparently, everybody knows that the bird is [strike]the word[/strike] a moorhen0 -

Noticed the usual amazon emails for purchases, usually free apps, bank account debited £60, my lad adding apps, spoke to amazon, they refunded the money as a jesture of goodwill, and advised me to put a pin into the setting to prevent this from happening in future.Back to square one, no apg, no comment.0 -

The Morries pizza comparisons can be hit or miss. Mozzarella wasn't comparing for a few days. It always helps if people can post success/failure like you just have :beer:Apparently, everybody knows that the bird is [strike]the word[/strike] a moorhen0 -

It just never occured to me she could subscribe to something. I assumed (wrongly) that you would need to enter your itunes password to make an in-app purchases
I've read about getting your service provider to block any and all reverse charge text messages. I might get that set upApparently, everybody knows that the bird is [strike]the word[/strike] a moorhen0 -

Not good but at least you can now put a stop to it. I think it is totally wrong how easy it is to sign up to something.
My youngest was online years ago, and signed up to something by putting her mobile number in, luckily just a PAYG phone but she lost all her credit nearly £10 in couple of hours. A hard lesson to learn.
Thing was it was not obvious what you were signing up for as all terms and conditions were on different page and to be honest it did look like she was getting something for free the way it was worded.0
