hi
my oh and i are throwing a party on saturday for some mates.
im looking on advice on what to cook as a one-pot meal - really want something different from curries and chilles.
i would prefer to cook in a big pot (to feed about 20) but i dont mind doing things to accompany it - but i dont want to spend a fortune as i need to buy drink and nibbles as well.
i would also prefer to cook it earlier in the day and then just heat it up later.
thanks in advance

Not curry or chilli?
Is bolognaise out too?
How about something like Pork In Cider or Chicken in Cider (use chicken pieces) ?
Beef Goulash (scale up and use a cheaper cut of meat)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PMS Pot: £57.53 Pigsback Pot: £23.00

How about a nice rich beef stew, or a sausage casserole? You can use posh sausages to tart it up a bit if you want something a bit posher. Sausage casserole is great with some mash, or you could do dumplings with a stew. If you put 'casserole' into Delia's website, there's tons of suggestions, several of which look lower cost.
Lasagne? Cottage pie - easy to tart up with some posh mash on top? Tagines can be nice - they're a Morrocan stew, spiced with cumin and some cinnamon, usually include something like plums or apricots. Delicious with couscous on the side (easy to prepare and cheap), and they're a bit different.0 -
what about the spanish casserole with Chorizos chickepeas, tomatoes ( chopped or passata IS Ok) and chilli and paprika
with this I usually do patatas bravas
and big spanish omelette cut into chunks on coktail sticks for nibbling
red wine
french loaves ( if you have a BM all the better)
Serve:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I do a big vegetable curry and serve it with nan breads, pittas, parathas etc
Exceptionally cheap and easy.
I have my own recipe or I sometimes use one of Sonia Allisons if I'm feeling nostalgic!
Let me know if you want either.
