Hello,
I work in an office and have been bought an office chair for my own use, specifically chosen by me to support my back which suffered an injury a few years ago.
I am starting to notice that first on the odd occasion, now if I am off for days or weeks, the chair is being used by other employees.
Whilst I know that the chair belongs to the Company I would have thought that if the chair was bought for my personal use (and where it has been set to fit my size (back / lumbar support / head rest) it should not be 'abused' by other stuff.
Thanks

What's your problem with someone else making use of it while you aren't? No big deal.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

I don't see any problem with the chair being used by other members of staff provided that they don't change any setting which were set specifically for you. In my office a few people have chairs specifically set up for them by occupational health - they have labels on them asking that they not be adjusted.
I'm not sure I understand how another employee sitting in a chair is 'abuse' of it....unless they're doing more than sitting!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
thanks, my concern is because people change the setting on the chair and I need to reset it each time, also some people do not take care/pride of their belongings, other issues is that there is someone who is quite heavy and goes through office chairs regularly...
Anyway thank you.0 -
Deary me its not that big of a deal....Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

we had this at my last place, they just put stickers on the back saying 'Flossie's chair, don't adjust any settings', than just a gentle reminder in a team meeting that these special chairs cost a fortune & were ordered for a reason, please respect them! or something like that, it worked ok.0

I don't think it's your concern if someone 'goes through office chairs regularly' as it is up to your employer to provide replacements if that is the case. I think the only thing you can reasonably do is ask people (nicely) not to adjust the chair as it is set specifically for you to help with whatever problem you have.
Keep in mind that loads of offices use hotdesks now and staff sit somewhere different pretty much every day and have to set up their work station each morning (including me, and I have to have things set in quite a particular way because otherwise I'm in pain most of the day).
The bottom line is you shouldn't be possessive of something that isn't yours!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Stick some drawing pins on it each time you leave or alternatively a large brown stain in a strategic location :rotfl:0

If they break the chair anyway then the company will have to fork out a new one...don't be so petty.People don't know what they want until you show them.0
