Gumtree Job - Real or fake???

what is the "huge company" he is employed by? phone them up and check this is legit
you could also phone manpower directly from the number on their website rather than the number they've given you in an email
the items they've requested could be used to steal your identity so be careful0 -
Hi all & thank you for your input.
He claimed he was self employed through Redmayne Bentley.
I called Manpower myself & was told told that no one of the name that I had worked there. I advised of the situation & they are going to investigate. I also contacted the people involved again to see if they would persuade me any further into providing the information. I have not heard another peep!
So, lesson learned! It was too good to be true & in a moment of desperation, I was nearly sucked in.
All I can say is Thank You.0 -
Really sorry it wasn't a genuine offer. Keep your chin up though, it will happen.0

Sounds like it was either an identity theft attempt or an advance fee scam - you'd have likely been asked to pay for something (the checks perhaps) by a method such as UKash.0 -
Thanks for sharing OP - goes to prove picking up the phone to check on something is the right thing to do0

Sorry but this 'job' has SCAM written through it in massive neon letters. Gumtree and job offers and asking for financial details are just obviously scams. Data entry, computer based work, a person who 'employs' somebody without seeing them, interviewing them etc, etc, just how can this NOT be a scam ???0
-
Also make sure you flag up the advert to Gumtree as they will take it down and maybe post it in the Gumtree forum to warn others and stop some other less savvy person being sucked in.

Good luck for the future x0 -

im not sure how this is helpful? I am trying all avenues to raise some money to support myself & two children. I turned to this site for helpful advice, not a lesson on how silly i have been. But thank you anyway :-)0 -
Don't worry linzi I was told how silly I was for ringing a company only earlier this week to check if a job offer was actually valid that had been emailed and nothing more heard!! so many scams going around it is easy to be sucked in, you were right in what you done and could save someone else x0
