Does anyone shop at the catering wholesaler Booker?

Whats worth getting? I think some stuff can be low quality like burgers and sausages. It would be good to know your experiences.

Thanks

We shop at Booker for drinks for our business. I don't buy any of the groceries there as I find I can source things cheaper by buying things on offer. We have bought the burgers and sausages for a BBQ once and everyone said how nice they were. They weren't the cheapest ones more mid range.

we are very picky too. cheese is about half price if you buy a huge 5kg block. just cut off chunks as you need it, wrap the big block in clingfilm and keep in the fridge.

toilet roll is well priced for good brands.

large sacks of potatoes are good.

bulk packs of pasta are good.
    chopped tomatoes in cans

take a listof prices you usually pay and do some mental arithmatic as you wander round.

Hi, I swear by their fresh meat. The skinless boneless chicken breasts are second to nove in my opinion, and at £19.99 for 5kg are very well priced, One thing I will say thoguh, is they are huge each one is twice the size of the supermarkets! Also they do skinless bonleless chicken thighs which are good. I've had their fresh turkeys for the last few years at Christmas and they are good too.

The Chefs larder sauces are pretty good, and if you are into gardening the grobags are very cheap at the minute!

(And if you like penny sweets, they are fab!)

    Sorry for the essay!

I had stuff fom Shorters Club (no longer trading) a couple of times and it was delivered by my local Bookers. I'd recommend the Eghoyans Pitta Bakery pittas if they have them. Evian was lots cheaper than my local supermarkets too.

Wow that chicken is good value at £4 per kilo, amazing.

I'm not that fussy really but I really am about meat products like burgers and sausages even before the horsemeat scandal! I just remember hearing about Bookers low quality frozen meats , but will definitely check out the fresh meat section.

    Technically you're not allowed to...

On the other hand my FIL buys their cheap slabs of bacon offcuts. All different shapes & sizes, but its still bacon. My understanding from my in-laws and previous employer, who got lots of stuff for the business there, is that loads of the stuff is often more expensive than buying from the supermarkets, especially if there are offers on.

    We use booker's

Best thing to do is make a list of the things you buy, especially your store cupboard things, like tins of baked beans, tomatoes etc.. write down the price that you normally pay for them.. so then you can spend some time comparing prices...

I personally don't buy meat from them,

But We mainly go there to buy stuff for work, loo rolls, washing powder, etc
