check out with Social Services/doctor/health visitor or school and explain and see if they can refer you to a foodbank. Hopefully they can help you so that you can afford the electric and gas. x

My favourite cheap and filling meal at the moment is from "cheap family recipes" website and is the bean curry

It's tin beans (25p), tin toms (31p) and tin red kidney beans (21p) with some onion (1/2 10p) and value curry powder(52p) - it makes loads so I buy value rice for 40p and have it with that and the next day with a jacket potato (best from market to just buy loose)

Also there is a lot of milk there - I always buy full fat and water it down so one pint would make 2 pints..... If that makes sense. Could save a bit in the short term and buy some more fruit? Tinned pineapple and peaches are very cheap x
DFW since JAN 2009 - 2014 will be the year i finally clear debts :) Just to see which month :))))

Dawn I am currently almost out of my electric emergency and have just gone into my gas emergency.

I assumed buying smart priced tinned things would use less electric in the micro or on the hob than me cooking things in the oven daily?

It also costs me £12.50 minimum a week to get my children to nursery and school and back. There is no way around that as it would take 1.5 hours to walk there which a 2 and 4 year old cannot do. Plus we would end up getting up at 5am each morning.

Not sure what else to do. I can skip meals if it means my children get fed well enough. In fact I have some slim fast shake powder at the back of the cupboard so I am going to use that up by having it for my lunches to save buying extra food for just me.

Are the children in same school?

why so much milk? 4 semi skimmed 10 full still uht no goodness left in it for the kiddies
  • Once the money runs out I guess I'm screwed?

The reason I've put so much milk is because calcium and thought when no snacks I can give milk? Put long life as can bulk buy and keep in cupboard.

My list is most of the smart price items as I thought if I just stock up cupboard stuff it's cheaper and doesn't go off. Food banks give items like from my list.

Also due to 40 minutes travelling home from school it's gone 4 by the time we get home so I don't always get time to cook big meals. I do have a slow cooker, but need to learn what I can do with it. So far I've done spaghetti Bol in it which the kids wolfed down.

I've got cereal, frozen mince, frozen fish.. Beans, soup, chips, etc in already.

  • Also no not at same school eldest is at school and youngest is at a private day nursery down the road.

A transfer form for school was posted on Wednesday so not sure how long that may take as no idea how that works.

I've been told it will take up to 12 weeks for me to start receiving tax credits and child benefit.

Werre social services involved in the residency court case and do you have a social worker allocated to the children?
