If you are claiming JSA can you be enforced to take a job after a number of months even if you say you cant afford the childcare costs for your 18mth old because your partner works full time?

You have to ask the jobcentre for a better off calculation. If it shows you would be worse off then you can refuse the job and request jobs around the hours that you are available to work. If you aren't willing to take any jobs then you arent looking for work and can't get JSA. You could be able to claim working and child tax credits if your partner does not earn enough. If you are claiming JSA can you be enforced to take a job after a number of months even if you say you cant afford the childcare costs for your 18mth old because your partner works full time?:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Thanks, thats really useful! My partner has been made redundant, i have had to go back to work full time and take my child out of private nursery. If he was to get a full time job we would have to pay more than what we do now on childcare and we would be worse off.
He did work 4 days 12hr shifts so childcare costs were for 4 days not 5. But he can not find a job with a similiar wage and those hours

Are you suggesting that the childcare bills would be more than his income? This is what the JCP would look at - not your situation in his previous employment.0 -
No, but with the extra childcare costs other bills wouldnt get paid. We couldnt afford to pay any extra childcare costs unless he was gettin a higher wage than what he was previously on, and this is very unlikely as the jobs that are coming up are less than his previouse wage0

Unfortunately the JCP does not work on an affordability basis. They look at your income and expenditure whilst claiming JSA, and compare it to what you would have in work. If the latter is higher than the former, you would not have a legitimate reason for turning down a job offer.0 -
Depending on the circumstances and wages you may be able to get help with childcare costs and working tax credits.
