Overall Cost for comparison

Good evening,
We are just about to purchase a new house and need to change/increase our mortgage. If I am looking at fixed rate mortgages what is more important the fixed rate over the set period or the overall cost for comparison. I will be looking to change/renegotiate after the fixed rate changes?
Thanks.

You should look at the true cost over the fixed rate period i.e. taking into account all the mortgage scheme feesI am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
