Council tax

Hello, I am new to here, I would like some advice on council tax arrears, I have had bailiffs at my door and became very depressed, I have n't invited friends round for a long time as I am frightened in case they come knocking again. I have contacted the council and asked for a list of
Liabilities against me. I now have a permanent contract however over the past few years I have been on temporary contracts and had short periods of unemployment. Some of the dates on the list of liabilities relate to times when I was in receipt of JSA.
I know that I applied for Council tax benefit when I applied for JSA, so how come I have the arrears? I am aware that other people who live in the local area have had similar problems, and that the council until recently employed a third party to deal with benefikts and any supporting documents. The council then stopped benefit claiming that the claiment had nt supplied the right documents.
Is there any way that I could challenge this?
Thanks

You need to stablish the periods in question and compare them against how much council tax benefit has been paid. Claiming JSA does not automatically make you entitled to full council tax benefit. The council then stopped benefit claiming that the claiment had nt supplied the right documents.
That's what they should be doing.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
I always supplied the documents they asked for and I did make a claim for HB/CTB when I applied for jsa0
