How to present a late wedding gift?

Options
My partner and I attended a friend's wedding in October. The couple had asked for money to be given towards them buying a new home instead of gifts, which was fine by us, but the month before the wedding my partner lost his job and we were looking at a very severe budget, so we ended up just taking a card and not donating anything to their new house.

It's now 6 months later and we're back on our feet (somewhat!) financially, and I'd like to make up for not having been able to give them anything at the time. They're quite an alternative couple, so traditional wedding gifts are probably out, and I don't know what they already have for the home anyway. What I'd like most would be an interesting way to present a small cash gift, like how people make money bouquets or something? Does that sound too tacky?

Basically - does it sound okay to give them cash 6 months after their wedding, and are there any neat ways to do so instead of just handing them a card with notes in it?

A few balloons, put notes in each, have them filled with heilum and give them a balloon boquete (sp).

I would take them out for a nice meal and/or make them up a nice hamper - I personally think handing them cash would feel a bit strange but that is just me maybe...

We had a late wedding gift of one of those giant canvases you can put whatever photo you want on it.
We put one of the group photo's from the wedding on it, and it's great!

I think a meal is a lovely idea. You could say its to celebrate their 6 months etc.

I would feel slightly uneasy as bride knowing my friend had to wait/save 6 months to give me something.

You helped celebrate their day, I thinking giving money now is a no no but definately treat them to something.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

I was mainly leaning towards money because that was all they asked for at the time of the wedding - if they'd had a gift list then I'd have some idea what they like lol :)

    Thanks for the ideas!

If the couple originally asked for money towards a new home then dependant on what type of home they bought you could look at giving them some vouchers for somewhere like b&q....or garden centre vouchers if they have a garden,if you didnt particularly want to give cash...

With the diy theme you could perhaps put together a small box of essentials...paint brush, white spirit, sandpaper, colour match cards etc and include the vouchers...or similarly with the garden add some vouchers to a nominal plant or even a hanging basket etc

How about a money tree. Find a small plant/bush for their garden and attach rolled up £5 notes or £10 notes to the branches. Money does grow on trees!!!

you could wait until their first anniversary and make a fuss of that instead, find a cheap hotel room deal and book them a night away, or do it now for the date of when their wedding was! getting a cheap deal in advance, de vere do good cheap rooms!
