Anyone Has Any Experience Transferring Uni's?

I have been thinking about changing Uni's and making a complete fresh start elsewhere. I just feel that If I stay where I live now I will not does aswell as I would being away from family & friends etc and the hassles that they bring.

My problem is I have a partner and a child so would obviosly want them to move with me and was wondering if anyone here has had a similiar experience? How would I go about this process?

I transferred university after my first year. I just approached the university that I wanted to move to directly. I got in touch with the department directly through the switchboard and asked them what I needed to do.

Essentially, it was just a matter of forwarding my previous qualifications and then sending off results from my first year modules. I also had to notify the LEA that I had transferred to a new university.

I transferred to the same course which obviously made the process simpler. It might be more complicated if you wanted to transfer to a different course.

should be fine. Most Uni's honour the CATS system (10 credits for single module, 20 for double), which means as long as your current Uni give formal notice of the marks and CATS for what you have done you will have no problem.

Thanks for the advice jo_b and marksward. I am currently doing Applied Psychology Bsc and was thinking of either the same course at Durham or Psychology Bsc at Newcastle University. Sounds like the university side of things can be done very simply then. Sounds like the hard part will be finding accomodation etc.

    Thank you

Many uni#s have a few family units (2 bed flat or similar). Contact the residences office to see if they have anything like this, or they may be able to point you in the right direction.

i changed uni's after my first year. i applied directly to the new uni and in eth qualifications bit i put my first year grades. they then checked that with teh old uni and credited 6 1st year credits to the new course. it was even a change of course from writing and drama to writing and writing for stage, screen and radio and it wasnt a problem. teh accomodiation office should be able to advise you on either university owned family flats or local approved landlords that cater for students with families. good luck. :).

im in the proess of trying to transfer to LIPA from buckinghamshire. Like they said above, i had to fill in one of their forms, send of a module list of the course in bucks and my grades from the first yr. its not a guarenteed place though so waiting to hear if i can move (oh please God let me get in!). i too have a family to move with me, which is why i am trying to change uni as liverpool would just be easier for trips back to ireland than buckinghamshire. I have a 5 month old and partner, we r just going to rent in the local area :)

    Good luck x

Best of luck with it all, you will prob get cheaper rent living over the water from Liverpool on the Wirral (Thats were I live) Travelling with a student rail card to Liverpool is only £1.20 return and is only approx a 5 minute train journey. My problem is my daughter is 11 this year and uprooting her might not be the best thing to do at that age. If you need any advice about local areas just drop me a PM.

You will need to contact your LEA or better, your Students' Union Advice Centre and get some clarification on your future funding entitlement.

This year will count as 1 year's funding when they add up your overall entitlement.
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."

As others have said you need to contact the uni directly. Have you visited both places? Newcastle and Durham offer very different university and living experiences.

You may have slightly more problems with Durham because for the last few years they admitted too many students and therefore the course may be full, but the only way you're going to know is if you give them a call.
