    Hi tight scotsman,

The National Careers Service has a CVs and covering letters page that can get you started. You’ll find plenty of hints and tips in these pages to get you thinking about different layouts that you could use and the content that you’d like to include. There is also a free CV Builder section on here – is this the sort of thing you were looking for?

Good luck with it and I hope you find a job which you’re happier in.
    Official Organisation Representative
I'm the National Careers Service verified representative. MSE's verified me to reply to queries about the organisation, so I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the verified companies & organisations list. I'm not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I have please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"

If you google CV Template you will find hundreds of Word templates and examples and then it comes down to personal taste on which one you choose.

You want something that is at least partially styled but unless you are in the creative industries then you dont want it too far off the wall. How it should look and be laid out will also vary depending on where you are in your career and what your line of business is

I would think twice about putting your email address on it though - so much job offer spam; which is obviously nice for a while

  • Privacy issues worry me when it comes to the NCS site. I would rather post CV's on other sites. For me it is the Government poking it's nose into yet more data. aaggh.

Have a look at this website for CV writing tips/template.
Why does it have to be online, can you not do it on a word document as you can upload this to most of the major recruiters as well as posting it to people, hand it to recruiters etc
