Dads pension query

Dad is 73 and gets state pension plus a small amount from an old employers pension scheme. Has had a letter stating that this ension scheme is in trouble and giving him three options. He is interested in taking offered lump sum of circa £7K. What would the tax implications be? Will this be taxed at source and then claimed back? Any advice appreciated.
