Yes..I'm sorry if it seems like I'm making things worse, but I can only give my personal experince on the rental thing. The BR process is a rocky road and very uncomfortable at times, but there's lots of virtual hands here for you to hold rufus. ;)

Hey, no I know I need to know the worst - hopefully it will seem plain sailing if I'm expecting worse:o . Mad thing is, my dad went bk last year, and I was able to support him and my mum through it, but I just cant bring myself to tell them!

Your mam and dad will so understand what you're feeling right now. If I were in your shoes I'd speak to them rufus, I'm sure they'd want to help.

My folks don't speak to me, not cos I'm BR, just cos they don't like me!:rotfl:

My mum had a breakdown the end of last year, and dad just doesn't talk about anything! (Mum discovered their money problems when she went to get a tenner out of the bank and the cash machine said no). They don't even know about the IVA (god knows how they thought I knew what I did when they wre talking about bk???)

Ok rufus, I guess you don't want to add to their troubles. Maybe your dad feels like you about his BR and find's it difficult to talk about it.

Anyway, you've got to think what's best for you right now and try and sort out your debts. Keep the questions coming as and when rufus.

    Rufus,

under the rent a room scheme he could actually charge you MORE before he'd get a tax liability, so he's nothing to worry about.

He doesn't need to register if it's below threshold, but it may put his mind at rest if you need him to sign an agreement.

Well, after a totally sleepless night (will I ever sleep well and feel well again???) I have decided to take my landlord out for dinner tomorrow night - can't afford it, but whats another £20 on top of £30k??? - and tell him exactly what is going on, and asking him for proof of my rent. If he won't, or he kicks off (which I doubt) then I guess I will just have to move.

Another brave step in the right direction rufus. Hope it goes well for you. :)

If you've been a good tenant then hopefully he will be on your side, better the devil you know so to speak. And once this mess is sorted you will begin to feel better and sleep better.

    Gud luk rufus.

Your landlord might be worried about the rent - if he has not declared it. However, he does not have to declare on The Rent A Room scheme under £4250 a year - approx £350 a month.

Tell your family. They have been through the mill, and you supported them.
