Parents are often faced with a multitude of options when considering what toy to buy for their child. VTech realises this so at the Birmingham NEC Baby Show from 11th – 13th May 2007 they will help parents through this minefield by bringing along their leading social psychologist, Dr Julie Coultas, who specialises in children’s play.
'Ask the expert'
Dr Julie Coultas will be available from 11am until 3pm on all days and will have her own ‘Ask the Expert’ area at the VTech Baby Smart-Play Zone. Parents can chat to Julie about their children, discovering ways to help their child's development and enhance special characteristics or qualities their child demonstrates. Through her 'Play Prescriptions' Dr Coultas will help mums, dads and grandparents understand which beneficial to their children, and which will suit their child’s particular interests. Dr Coultas comment, "Whilst the most important part of play is fun – it also provides a crucial mechanism by which a child can develop physically, mentally and socially. Toys can aid cognitive development at the same time as supporting the infant's social development through the interaction that takes place between the child and an adult (or older peer).”
Electronic toys are fantastic for promoting these forms of play. Toys such as the Explore and Learn Mat, help to improve baby’s motor skills whilst also strengthening neck and back muscles. Or for babies who love to imitate mum or dad in the car, the Learn and Go Baby Driver with sing along songs for imaginative play! Parents will be able to have a consultation with Dr Coultas and to test out all of VTech’s exciting educational and interactive learning toys in the VTech Baby Smart-Play Zone.
Your chance to win!
Thanks to our friends at VTech we are giving our members the chance to win one of 5 V.Smile Baby infant development systems from VTech. V.Smile Baby infant development system from VTech is designed to give Mum and baby a magical learning experience together. VTech appreciates that learning with a parent is an important component of infant development and as Dr Julie Coultas comments, "The importance of an adult (often the mother) sharing activities with their infant must not be underestimated. The opportunity to interact in a playful and stimulating environment can enhance learning. Language abilities develop in these one-to-one interactions where the infant also learns how to behave socially".
VTech’s leading experts developed V.Smile Baby to encourage babies as young as 9 months (up to 36 months) to learn about, and embrace, the world around them. Five interactive chunky colourful shaped buttons and a special effects rolling ball are used to activate three modes of play which grow with baby- from watching, learning and interacting with mum to learning fundamentals such as colours, numbers, shapes, animals, objects based on age-appropriate curriculum. Connected via an infra red wireless connection, the system is perfect for TV home play or on-the–go using the Stand Alone feature!
