Bringing Up Baby Old Style ... 2013 and beyond

I second a lot of the suggestions on here, particularly borrowing stuff, freecycle, charity shops and and ebay.
We borrowed most stuff, ebay for others (cot and pushchair - £25 for a M&P pliko!) and only actually bought a cot mattress and car seat new.
Re-usable/washable stuff is great - we used cloth nappies, re-usable wipes, washable breast pads (actually found these better than the disposables).
I'm currently pregnant with twins, so while I was ready to not need any new stuff, I'm now having to borrow extras of everything! The only thing I'm buying is a double pram (from ebay obviously) as I've never been able to get on with slings/baby carriers due to a bad back (and a likely c-section scar).
Only other suggestion is to sign up for lots of baby clubs to get freebies etc - free disposable nappies for the early (especially first baby) stage and samples of creams etc were ideal as emergencies for the nappy bag. I'm also currently stocking up on cotton wool gradually as I was always running out (and I use it for cleanser etc so it never goes amiss).0
