merino wool for summer cycling

I don't have a far cycle, mainly a 4mile round trip, but I'm wondering if it's worth investing in some merino wool t-shirts for spring/summer (what we get anyway) and autumnal cycling.
I'm mainly looking at icebreaker since they have some nice designs that I wouldn't mind just wearing around the office instead of bringing a change of Tee.
The prices are a little high, so I'm wondering if it's a decent investment or I'd find it too hot for summer rides.

I find Merino too warm for summer sports, but I do get hot very quickly. It's also a bit clammy, so would recommend a change of clothes, even though it won't smell.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

I got a merino icebreaker t shirt and its nice but I've always found it a bit scratchy! I think it would be too warm for summer and that a lightweight wicking baselayer is better for summer rides.
Also it was very expensive, it was about £40.000 -
I've got a couple of merino tops (Vulpine, Howies, Endura), and I tend to wear them most for Spring/Autumn rides and as a baselayer in Winter. When the summer really kicks in they do get a bit too warm, although they tend to cool down quickly. I was wearing the Vulpine jersey yesterday and I wasn't overheating at 21c when on the bike, but I think if it was hotter it might have felt too warm. All that said, summer can be a good time to pick up some bargains for the winter weather, as stuff goes in the sale. Keep an eye on the SportPursuit website - they often have good bargains on merino layers.2015 comp wins - £370.25
Recent wins: gym class, baby stuff
Thanks to everyone who posts freebies and comps! :j0 -
Thought they might be a bit too warm, and actually after cycling today with a messenger bag instead of a backpack, i'm much less sweaty (tmi) though i'll take your advice on watching the price as i'd like to a bit more year roundy than fair weather.0
