Received a Letter from HMRC

Hi All,

Within the last month I bought a house and on Saturday a letter from HMRC arrived stating that they have received a Land Transaction Return from me relating to the new property and I owe a penalty of £100, what does this relate to as I sent no LTR's to HMRC?

Thanks

Thanks but I don't understand why it's considered a penalty.

HMRC. Gone are the days when income tax was 1p in the £. You could always pop into your local tax office as these penalty notices are computer generated like everything else. Like everything everywhere these days ignorance is no excuse.
TBH I have not encountered this form. I sold my property some years ago expecting a housing price crash resulting from a housing bubble. People laughed at me at the time as if I was crazy. Then a year later they stopped laughing when the crash happened.
I am an expat now - anything to get away from HMRC.:j

You should have submitted one by a certain date and because you didn't you are being fined?

Surely your solicitor should have taken care of this?
