Rub round with a damp cloth and bi-carb. Bi-carb is supposed to get rid of smells.

I sprinkle Bi-Carb in the bottom and then a couple of drops of essential oil

  • thank you all so much for all your helpful advice, i'm off to the shops to get one of those sticky air freshener thingies and buy a load of Bicarb. Hopefully it'll work and my bathroom will be a fragrant again (well as fragrant can be!!)

How about soda crystals and hot water? Swill the mix round the bin and fingers crossed!

  • Hi, I agree with the bicarb advice, and the only means of prevention is to put the nappies straight out in the dustbin.

It's sometimes hard to get to the outside dustbin when you have a toddler in tow; you could always do what I do ... wrap the nappy up in a nappy bag and chuck it out of the bathroom window. Obviously this depends on which way your bathroom window faces. I do get them all in the dustbin eventually, honest!

Plastic does tend to absorb smells, I would invest in a straw waste paper bin.
